Custom Quilts & Projects
OVERVIEW

All quilts are handmade with a top layer using your materials or fabrics chosen, premium quilting fabric for borders and/or framing, a center layer of premium batting and backed with the highest quality quilting cotton. They are quilted by me on my sewing machine to hold the layers together (or can be sent to a long armer if you choose). They are machine washable and meant to be used and loved for years to come. I will make your quilt as strong and long lasting on the inside as it is beautiful to look at on the outside. Your quilt will be made entirely by me from start to finish.

I am in northern Michigan, Gaylord area. Most customers are local or friends of friends, I am happy to work with anyone, if you are local or out of the area. Custom quilts and projects are best if we can meet or do a virtual meeting to discuss the fabrics or materials you are planning to incorporate in your project. This helps me to ensure that you will have a beautiful result and a project that will tell your story. I will spend hours (and hours) working on these quilts and handmade gifts, therefore, learning why matters to me.

DETAILS:
QUILT SIZING
Quilts can be made by either a custom based design (that I will design to your liking) or a pre-existing pattern. Most common sizes are throw-size quilts which range 50"- 65"x 60"-80". This is a common size to be used on the couch for cuddling, to take to a sports game or on an adventure. Other sizes (baby, twin, queen/king) are available but for larger sizes the timeline will be longer, and prices will increase so please inquire.
DESIGN CHOICES
There are so many choices! As the customer, you will choose the coordinating fabrics, and backing for your project, the type of batting used inside depending on how you want the quilt to feel as well as the quilting design to hold the layers together. It may seem like a lot to decide, but when we meet to discuss your vision, I am happy to give you some insight and direction as you need. You may find inspiration for your project on the photo gallery. When we meet, any images, colors or patterns you have in mind will be helpful. As the customer, you will choose the details for your quilt, this will set your quilt apart from a mass-produced quilt you will find in big stores and online. This quilt will be made using high quality materials by hand and will outlive generations.
T-SHIRT & MEMORY QUILTS: MATERIALS AND PREPARATION
Your beloved T-shirts and sweatshirts can make your quilt really personal and unique. Depending on the materials you wish to include, we can discuss how they will best fit into your quilt and if there is any additional charge for certain items. There is a lot of work that goes into a memory quilt that can't be seen on the outside. Before sewing your shirts, I will attach 100% cotton woven material to the back of each item to be used in the quilt. This ensures it will be strong and long lasting far beyond the normal wear and tear of a regular knit or woven T-shirt. Before I receive the shirts, they must be freshly washed with NO FABRIC SOFTENER. If this has not been done the interfacing may not adhere properly.
FOR ALL PROJECTS: TIMELINE, PAYMENT & SHIPPING
The time to complete a custom quilt is between 4-8 weeks from the point that I have your materials and the first half of the payment. For smaller sewing projects, the timeline may be faster depending on the number of other projects ahead of yours. Note: This timeline can vary around Christmas and graduation season, or if your quilt is a particularly complex custom design. If you have a deadline you're working with please let me know up front. I require half of the anticipated cost to begin the project, I use this non-refundable payment to pay for the materials used in your project. Once the quilt is complete, I’ll send a final invoice and collect the second half of the payment when arranging for pick up, or shipment of your quilt. If shipping is required, you are responsible for the shipping of your materials to me. I encourage you to insure this, as your items are irreplaceable. I will include the cost of return shipping in your final payment. I collect the payment through Venmo and PayPal. Deposits and completed quilts are non-refundable, as they are all custom work.
NEXT STEPS
If you’re ready to order a custom project or quilt, I’m so excited to work with you! First, determine the type of quilt you'd like to have made. Review the photo gallery for inspiration, or if you have an image/idea already, please send it to me for reference.
For t-shirt/memory quilts: Next gather your materials and do a count of how many items you'd like to include in your quilt. Remember to count each item separately if you plan to use multiple parts (ex: back and front of a shirt will be 2 blocks)

WHAT TO EXPECT
Once I receive your form you'll hear back from me within 48-72 hours, confirming I got your request.
For T-Shirt Quilts and Custom Quilts (memory quilts, baby clothes quilts, patterned or whole cloth quilts) I will send you an invoice for the anticipated amount of your custom quilt. 50% of the anticipated total is due to begin the project. This non-refundable amount is used to purchase the materials for your project. Once you send the deposit (50% of anticipated total) we will schedule a time to meet. This is when you’ll bring your materials to my workshop. Please plan for an hour for this meeting, as we’ll also be making design decisions. Or if you are shipping your items I will send this information and schedule a phone call, FaceTime or Zoom meeting.
For Clothing, Home Décor and Gifts (quilted/appliqued sweatshirts, bowl cozies, table runners/toppers, placemats, mug rugs, or pocket prayer quilts) : I will confirm your request was received and send an invoice for $20 Calendar Hold fee. This non-refundable deposit holds space on my calendar, so we can schedule our design meeting. This will go toward your initial 50% deposit. Because of the nature of these projects being much more open ended, I will provide your invoice after learning more about your project at our design meeting.
